Can I move data from my OneDrive to Comet?

It is not recommended to store research data on OneDrive because your University OneDrive account is deleted one month after you leave the University and due to GDPR requirements, the University cannot retrieve data for you or your colleagues, even before this happens.

Small amounts of data can be moved between OneDrive and RDW using the file explorer on University Managed Windows computers. RDW is mounted on Comet and is our recommendation for research data storage.

It is possible to transfer data from OneDrive to Comet HPC using Rclone on the login nodes. Access to OneDrive using third party clients (such as Rclone) is controlled by NUIT Cyber Security teams - you will need to submit a ticket to itservicedesk@ncl.ac.uk and ask that they add your username into the list of users who are allowed to use Rclone.

Moving data to, from and on our HPC is covered within our Getting Started section, on the Data Transfer page.
