Setting up a new RDW share for a research project

RDW is the best place to store research data, it is accessible as a mount on both Rocket and Comet HPCs and also from campus Linux and Windows computers.

To request a new RDW share

“Request Something” at https://nuservice.ncl.ac.uk/ and search for “research data”. Staff will see the option “Research Data Warehouse - Access”. The following information will be asked for, if you do not provide it when you log the ticket:

  • A short name for the folder: e.g. your HPC project code - This should not contain spaces or special characters other than “-” and “_”.
    • Location for the folder: (only IF the group has a share with multiple projects) e.g. `\\Campus\RDW\Group\ProjectCode`
  • Capacity currently required: e.g. “We expect to need 2TB during the next year”
  • Budget holder authorisation: e.g. an email from the PI
  • Cost code (this is now required for audit purpose even where no cost is incurred)
  • Full names (preferably login IDs) of who should have read access access; please indicate read or edit access for each person, or everyone will be give 'edit' access to the entire folder
