Project Description

Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) process chain modelling and GLOF risk modelling. GLOFs are complex rapid onset floods that can damage infrastructure for many tens of kilometres downstream, and, can cause mass fatality events. This project uses complex multiphase & clearwater modelling of GLOF inundation.

Software or Compute Methods

r.avaflow, for complex hazard chains and multiphase flows; HEC-RAS 6.3.1, for clearwater 2D inundation modelling; LifeSim201 for risk reduction quantification; RAMMS, currently not in use.
